Rebel8
Rebel8
In 2003, Josh D, a native San Franciscan, started making graphic t-shirts with a focus on original artwork by Mike Giant. He wanted to deliver the punk DIY attitude shared among his friends to the world through unique products. REBEL8® incorporates subcultures into workwear-inspired apparel, through the lens of San Francisco in the 90s.
REBEL8® began at 833 Divisadero Street, a small studio apartment in the heart of San Francisco measuring less than two hundred square feet. With just $500 and a positive mental attitude, Josh didn't just want to start a business, but build a brand that resonated with like-minded individuals who shared his values. The walls were covered with inspiration—Giant's original art for the first catalog hung above a listing for warehouse space, a constant reminder of the next goal. So, he got to work, screenprinting a batch of tees and selling them to anyone who wanted to support.
Underneath the loft bed, every box of inventory was packed in, while the kitchen served mainly as storage for shipping supplies. Each morning, boxes were hauled into the alley to fulfill wholesale orders one by one. No investors. No shortcuts. Just grit, creativity, and an unwavering belief in REBEL8®.
Three years later, REBEL8® moved into its first warehouse—the very one from that listing Josh had stared at every day. The journey to becoming internationally recognized remains fueled by the same energy that started it all: a dedication to community, authentic cultural connections, and a working-class DIY spirit.
Today, REBEL8® remains independently owned and operated, shipping directly to loyal customers in over 110 countries. While its reach is now global, the relentless optimism of those early days is stitched into everything the brand creates.
