Goros Vol.II Is Ready to Make Some Noise.
GOROS HAS BEEN REMIXED.
Not lightly renovated. Not given a new chair and a slightly different shade of paint.
Remixed.
The Surry Hills drinking house has entered its second chapter with warm pine interiors, low lighting, cosy booths and an in-house record collection framing a vinyl-only DJ booth at the centre of the room.
The formula remains reassuringly direct: cocktails, yakitori, vinyl and karaoke.
All four food groups.
GOROS VOL.II.
The new Goros is designed to move with the night.
Drinks and skewers begin at the table. Records take over behind the bar. Dinner becomes another drink. Another drink becomes dancing. Someone eventually suggests karaoke, and the evening reaches its natural point of no return.
The music now runs through a custom Martin Audio sound system, with a handcrafted Condesa rotary mixer and a weekly programme built around resident DJs, record collectors, local stores, labels and visiting selectors.
Depending on the night, that could mean hip hop, jazz, disco, boogie, soul or whatever somebody found at the back of the crate and decided needed to be played immediately.
The programme runs from Tuesday to Saturday, shifting between staff selections, local collective takeovers, resident sessions and weekend sets.
THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH.
Goros officially launches Vol.II on Thursday 15 October with Sampology and Cazeaux O.S.L.O. leading the room.
Brisbane’s Sampology brings a catalogue that moves through hip hop, deep house, future jazz, and broken beat. Melbourne’s Cazeaux O.S.L.O. - the project of poet, vocalist and producer Dominic Wagner - brings his combination of literary songwriting, hip hop and neo-soul.
Diola, Flywaves, DJ Moto (aka Dusty Moto), and Naiki complete the line-up, each bringing a record collection deep enough to cause concern.
Entry is free and the doors open at 5 pm.
Arriving early would be the sensible move.
Whether the night remains sensible after that is entirely up to you.
