Sixty years of saving the planet. A few things to wear while you’re here.
WIND AND SEA is stepping into the world of Ultraman, bringing the Japanese television icon’s science-fiction universe to a capsule of graphic tees, sweats and hoodies. The Tokyo label has plenty to work with: a silver-and-red superhero, an extraordinary cast of monsters and decades of imagery that still holds its own.
Tsuburaya Productions first introduced Ultraman in 1966, and it helped shape a visual language recognised far beyond its original television audience. That world of tokusatsu, the Japanese tradition of effects-driven live-action entertainment, has a particular appeal. The creatures have character. The scale is enormous. Even a still image suggests something is about to happen.
That energy carries into the collaboration. Ultraman and his kaiju counterparts appear alongside WIND AND SEA’s familiar lettering, with retro emblems and poster-style graphics giving the pieces the feel of something pulled from an old fan’s collection. Distressed treatments and bold blocks of colour carry the television nostalgia across relaxed, everyday shapes.
Hoodies, crewnecks, long sleeves and T-shirts make up the reported lineup. They give the artwork room to do its thing, whether you know the franchise inside out or simply appreciate a very good monster graphic.
Actor and longtime Ultraman enthusiast Shiro Sano appears in the campaign teaser, adding a personal connection to the anniversary release. His involvement makes sense for a series whose audience has grown across generations. For plenty of people, these characters have been around longer than almost anything else in their wardrobe.
The appeal is easy to understand. A familiar hero, a slightly strange universe, and something you can pull on before leaving the house.
The WIND AND SEA x Ultraman capsule is scheduled to launch on 31 October 2026, through the WIND AND SEA online store, its Tokyo and Osaka flagship stores, and selected authorised stockists.
