Hyein Seo

Hyein Seo is a South Korean fashion designer renowned for her bold and rebellious approach to contemporary womenswear. Born and raised in Seoul, she launched her eponymous label in 2014 at the age of 23, shortly after graduating from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. Her debut collection garnered significant attention when it was showcased at New York Fashion Week through VFILES, a platform for emerging designers. The collection's standout piece, a faux fur stole emblazoned with the word "FEAR," was famously worn by Rihanna, propelling the brand into the international spotlight.

Seo's design philosophy centers on empowering women through fashion that is both expressive and subversive. Her collections often draw inspiration from countercultures, blending elements from punk, skate, and anime aesthetics. For instance, her Fall/Winter 2017 collection, "Final Boss," was influenced by video game characters and martial arts uniforms, reflecting a fusion of traditional and futuristic styles. Similarly, the Spring/Summer 2019 collection, "White Noise," was inspired by the vibrant youth culture of Seoul, featuring unisex designs and pieces influenced by film characters and cultural motifs.
